Pontifical Mission Societies
Since 1881, Spiritans have been involved in the four Pontifical Mission Societies in the promotion of prayer, offering of suffering and obtaining financial support for the universal Church. Since the appointment of Fr. Michael Hyland CSSp in 1881, there has always been a Spiritan as National Director of Missionary Children. In 1982, Fr. Seamus Galvin CSSp also became National Director of Propagation of the Faith, S. Peter Apostle and Pontifical Mission Union. Fr Ed Grimes CSSp succeeded Fr. Galvin in 1998 as National PMS Director. In 2005, the Irish PMS Office made more than €4 million available to assist missionary activity.

CONFRATERNITY OF THE HOLY SPIRIT

This Confraternity was founded in the 19th century to promote devotion to the Holy Spirit, 'the forgotten Paraclete' to help people to realise His powerful presence in them and to act under the influence of His holy inspiritation.

To develop this devotion the following practices are recommended:

1. To pray daily to the Holy Spirit;

2. To wear the badge of the Holy Spirit;

3. To help spread the work of the Confraternity by enrolling others, and by donations to the Confraternity;

4. To consecrate the first Monday of each month to honouring the Holy Spirit in some special way, and to make with fervour the Novena for Pentecost;

5. To read about the Holy Spirit and His work in the Church;

6. To ask Mary, the Spouse of the Holy Spirit, for the grace to have a true devotion to him.

Indulgences may be gained on the day of enrolment and on other occasions throughout the year.

CONFRATERNITY OF THE IMMACULATE HEART OF MARY REFUGE OF SINNERS

When we join this Confraternity we place ourselves under the special protection of Our Blessed Mother. She said to the children of Fatima: "God wishes to establish in the world devotion to my Immaculate Heart".

We honour the Immaculate Heart of Mary by:

1. Imitating the virtues centred in her heart.

2. Reading and meditating about Mary, and praying to her, especially the Rosary;

3. Mass and Holy Communion on the five first Saturdays;

4. Observing her Feastdays throughout the year;

5. Having her picture or statue in our homes;

6. Consecrating ourselves and our families to her Immaculate Heart.

We gain many indulgences from the treasury of the Church including a pleanary indulgence on the day of enrolment.

Help to bring others to Mary's Immaculate Heart that she may bring them close to her Son, Jesus.
