The General Chapter in Itaici considered the Congregation would be greatly enriched by more contact with Asia. In November 1996 the General Council decided on two new initiatives there.
In December the following year Spiritans arrived in the Diocese of Iligan,Philippines,and Hsinchu,Taiwan.An international team of four Spiritans was appointed to each country-comprising members from 6 different circumscriptions with an Irish Spiritan in both missions.
