The Basis for Collaborative Ministry

Essentially collaborative ministry is a manifestation of the Trinitarian love of God to the world. It embodies a way of relating together that is respectful of the dignity and giftedness of every baptised person and it is the model of ministry that most clearly reflects the life and message of Jesus Christ. Collaborative ministry is rooted in the church's teaching that all the baptised are consecrated and share in the one priesthood of Christ.

The Holy Spirit dwells and works in all members of the church providing them with the gifts that are needed to build up the body of Christ; every baptised person has a contribution to make in the mission of the Church. As Christ's ministers in the church it is our duty and responsibility to discern and encourage the giftedness of those with whom we live, work and serve: we are co-labourers in Christ and our way of working acknowledges the dignity, equality and giftedness of all. A reflection of the life and message of Jesus Christ.Jesus was a man of integrity, a leader who came to serve and worked collaboratively with others to respond to the needs of the alienated and marginalised. He shared his power with the twelve and called and sent 72 disciples to work in two's to heal the sick and proclaim the Kingdom of God. Today he charges each of his disciples to be his witnesses in the world. During his life on earth, Jesus chose not to work in isolation but was inclusive in his approach and supportive of those he worked with.Jesus provides us with a model for ministry and we Spiritans, in and through our workings, are a testament to the validity of His message and the hope of His Kingdom.
to enable people to work together in the spirit of the Gospel.
to fashion patterns of communication which allow for maximum grassroots input and which facilitate sharing, understanding, ownership and empowerment.
to develop patterns of governance that involve all members of the community.
to enable all to explore more fully their particular gifts, talents and charisms.
to help all the baptised to recognise the call they have to transform society and make the message of the gospel real in whatever situation they find themselves.
to actively seek opportunities to work with, and not for, the laity.

The Objectives Of The Irish Province In
Relation To Collaborative Ministry.

The objectives set out the priorities identified by the provincial team in consultation with various communities in the province.
They are high-level statements of intent and the details of how they may be achieved will be in the development of individual strategies. The objectives outlined here are all equally important and not presented in any order of priority. They are:

to evaluate the organisational set-up in each of our communities.
to work to create a collaborative mentality in the Province.
to put in place structures that will support collaboration at all levels.
to evaluate how we work with people outside our Spiritan family and create structures that facilitate collaboration.
